Building Habitat Honduras Houses

The House

Habitat Honduras offers two different models of houses to choose from; a 48 m² (~517 ft²) and a 36 m² (~388 ft²)

Both houses consist of:
- two bedrooms
- a bathroom with toilet and shower
- a combined kitchen/dining/living space

The larger model also includes a porch area in front of the house.

Construction Materials

Houses are constructed using the following materials:
- 1,200 rebar reinforced concrete blocks
- Poured cement floors
- Zinc-Aluminum corrugated roofs

- PVC piping
- Glass panel windows
- Native pinewood doors
- Adobe block (only in the Copan department)

Construction Activities

Possible construction activities during Global Village trips:
- Back filling foundations with dirt
- Leveling floors
- Sifting sand
- Mixing concrete

- Constructing rebar braces
- Laying block
- Making adobe blocks
