Current Special Projects |
|
The following are special projects that Habitat Honduras will be developing and beginning construction of by the end of the year. We encourage church groups of all denominations, youth groups, University groups, and businesses to actively participate in these special projects through the donation of materials, money (to purchase land) or physical labor. It is through the support of others that Habitat Honduras is able to help build the dreams of the people of Honduras. If you would like to support one of the special projects please contact Gaby Chavez.
Losusa Project: We have build 10 houses in Chamelecon in San Pedro Sula, and we plan to build another 10 more by the end of this year. With the technical support of our great volunteer, Kent Burdine, our masons continue to construct houses at a fast pace. Land for this project was purchased using Habitat Honduras's Land Fund, meaning that families are not required to own or purchase the land that their future home will sit on.
Santa Marta Project: Located in Siguatepeque, Habitat Honduras is working in conjunction with Millbrook Baptist Church in order to build 13 houses during the second half of this year.
Buena Vista Project: Developed in Siguatepeque, this project was made possible by the donation of land by the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago. Nine families with low incomes, will be provided new homes through this project at just the cost of materials. The houses are scheduled to be finished by the end of the year.
Copan Ruins Project: Through the special support of donor Don Warren, Habitat Honduras will be able to help 100 Maya Chorti families renovate and repair their houses in the indigenous communities of the highlands of Copan. Habitat is commited to completing this project without reimbursement of funds by the families in need due to the poor conditions of this ethnic group and the health concerns created by Chagas disease. Chagas is a disease found in children that is spread by insects that live and bread in homemade straw/mud walls of the Chorti Maya.
Shimishal Village Project Ten minutes from downtown Santa Rosa de Copan, this project was made possible by the donation of land from the Durham, N.C. Affiliate. It includes the construction of 18 new adobe houses. |
