Luis has been working as the Global Village Coordinator for Honduras since 2002. In that time he has hosted over 150 work teams from all over the world.
Originally from Honduras, Luis was born in Santa Rosa de Copan, the land of the Lenca and Maya Chorti tribes. Santa Rosa has been an important Spanish settlement ever since 1796 when German, Austrian and Spanish immigrants were drawn to the area because of the economic surge created by the local tobacco business.
Some of Luis' fondest memories of his life include: seeing Haley's Comet, living through Hurricane Mitch, surviving two earthquakes, walking away from an encounter with guerilla soldiers in El Salvador, watching three solar and five lunar eclipses, and meeting Mother Teresa when he was nine years old.
Luis studied at a Honduran-German Technical Institute, where he earned his high school diploma and an Electrician degree. He then attended university and studied Industrial Engineering for three years before realizing he had no interest in the field and quiting. He later returned to school to study Sociology.
Luis is a philatelist, as well as enjoying bird watching, cooking, going to the movies, and learning about historic and religious architecture. |
