Habitat charges $35/day for each day spent working.
Included in this fee is:
- Transportation to and from airport
- Transportation to and from worksite each day - Lodging near the worksite
- Orientation materials
- All meals on work days
- Purified water and snacks on the worksite
- Welcoming activities
- A planned intercultural experience during the week
- Farewell ceremony and participation certificate
- Administrative costs of Habitat associated with planning
- Follow-up materials (postcards, picture of finished house, etc.)
Personal money will be necessary for the following items (if desired):
- Travel days before or after working with Habitat
- All costs associated with R&R activities (including transportation to and from)
- Nightlife activities
- Any alcoholic beverages
- Desserts at meals
- Extras at the hotel (phone calls, laundry, single rooms, or damages)
- Tips for drivers or restaurant staff
- Airport departure tax ($32) - Medical expenses (Medex provides reimbursements)
Additional Comments and Suggestions:
- ATM machines are easily accessible in larger cities, but are less common in small communities
- ATM's will generally accept either MasterCard or VISA cards
- Dollars are usually accepted for larger purchases, but lempiras are recommended for small items such as snacks and beverages
- It is NOT recommended to bring Traveler's Checks, as it sometimes can be difficult to find a bank willing to exchange them - Exchange rates are much more favorable in Honduran airports and banks than those offered in U.S. airports
- People that bring two credit cards and $250-300 cash usually return home with money left over |
