The Tegucigalpa Affiliate was founded in 1996 and since has built over 1,046 houses.  The affiliate not only serves the urban neighborhoods within the capital city, but the surrounding rural areas as well.  The Habitat staff that work in the affiliate office are dedicated to constructing over 200 houses each year.

General Information:
Getting its tongue twisting name from the Nahuatl language, in which it means 'Silver Mountain,' Tegucigalpa was once one of the most important mining towns
in all of Central America.  Today it serves as the modern capital of Honduras and has grown into the largest city in the country with a population well over a million.  It blends a well preserved colonial heritage with all the
modern comforts of the western world.  Temperatures tend to be cooler here, around 60-80 F, because of the city's higher altitude (4,000 ft.).
