The first affiliate in Honduras, the Santa Cruz de Yojoa Affiliate began constructing houses in 1989.  It serves the 30 agricultural communities that surround Lake Yojoa and has built more

than 1,115 houses since beginning.  Along with an annual goal of constructing 110 houses, the affiliate also strives to form strong partnerships with public service and
electrical companies, and other volunteer organizations to help faciliate the creation of Habitat communities.
General Information:
The city of Santa Cruz was founded in 1832 by Francisco Ferrera and now has a population of 60,000.  It serves as a small commercial center for the surrounding towns that cultivate chickens, tilapia, yucca and pineapple.  There is also a large population that commutes to San Pedro Sula each day to work in the garment factories.  Santa Cruz has an altitude of about 2,000 ft. and average temperatures of 85-95 F.
